LUL Pay Rise

RATES OF PAY & CONDITIONS OF SERVICE 2019 – LONDON UNDERGROUND (LUL/0001)

Further to my previous Circular (IR/288/19, 31st July 2019), the RMT negotiating team has attended a series of talks with the Company at ACAS and a revised offer has now been received which is as follows:-

            Year One

·         A 2.7% (February 2019 RPI + 0.2%) consolidated increase for all grades from 1st April 2019

·         A minimum increase of £750 (pro-rated for employees working less than 35 hours per week)

Year Two

·         A 30 minute reduction in the contractual working week, from 35 hours to 34.5 hours

·         An RPI (February 2020 figure) + 0.2% consolidated increase for all grades, less the costs associated with the implementation of the reduction in the working week set out above

There have been further talks at Acas and the RMT have made it clear that we want time off as whole shifts and not a few minutes at the beginning and end of the shift. Talks are continuing

LUL Transformation Update

Dear ALL,

The closing date for the Transformation Ballot is Tuesday 16th July.

It is very important that everyone has a vote and uses it as there are legal thresholds to achieve.

Therefore please vote YES for strike action.

This is a vitally important dispute that affects many people on LUL .

This is about how we discuss Job losses in Operational Areas and is happening now.

Initially, LUL tried to force incorrect processes on our reps in the Transplant area and we resisted and had the matter stopped.

Now they are forcing their version of how they consult job losses throw and steamrollering over your agreements and protect.

As a reminder, the RMT have won agreements that:

  1. Protect you from losing your job through Compulsory Redundancy. This agreement sets how talks must be progressed
  2. Protect you from job losses that make your work place unsafe. This sets how job losses must be safety validated to ensure each and every one of us is safe at work. LUL are not following this process fully.
  3. Protects your rosters. Both Asset operations and Tube Lines areas have roster agreements that make sure any changes to rosters are agreed through negotiation. LUL are ignoring this.
  4. Protects your rights to how and which unions negotiate on your behalf. LUL are refusing to accept these agreements by allowing non-recognised trade unions access to these talks. The RMT have clearly stated that we will oppose bad changes and will not bow to any proposals that are not acceptable to our members.
  5. Refuse to accept that job losses are an issue for NEGOTIATION and not consultation. We will not allow them to TELL us our members are losing their jobs,

The answer is simple. Please VOTE ‘YES’ if you want to protect what rights your union has won for you over the years, or VOTE ‘NO’ if you agree with LUL

If you have not received a ballot paper, please call 0800 376 3706 for a replacement

UNITY IS STRENGTH

TRANSFORMATION BALLOT LEAFLET

Become an RMT Rep

The RMT are looking for reps across various areas where we currently have vacancies.

Union Reps: They represent you. They should listen to your views and make sure management hear and act on what our members want. They are here to help you if you have problems and if you get in trouble. Sometimes it will seem like the only friend you have is your union rep. So support them to support you

Health and Safety Reps: We come to work to earn money, not to go home in a body bag or hurt. Unionised work places are safer. We work together with companies and sometimes in conflict to make sure that our work places are safe. Your reps carry out inspections and investigations and regularly meet with companies to ensure it is safe at work

Union Learner Reps: We want everyone to fulfil their potential. That can be through pay and conditions but also through education. Union Learner Reps are here to help you through education. They can help you find courses and maybe get release from work and funding.

So if you want to make a difference then contact

Bob Crow Branch nominates Sean Hoyle for General Secretary

The Bob Crow Branch overwhelmingly backed Sean Hoyle for General Secretary tonight at our branch meeting.

Both Sean and Mick Cash spoke well and were a credit to our union, but ultimately, it was Sean’s passion and vision for the future that won the vote.

Sean stated

  1. His history within the union and roles on the NEC and as President. That the RMT was not the same as other unions such as Unite and that our NEC and our was run by the members..
  2. Affiliation: Did not believe in Affiliation to the Labour Party and discussed people like Sadiq Khan in London was not representing workers. He believed that the only people that can save us is ourselves and being kicked by our own so called party was unacceptable and hurt more. He wanted to see more MPs removed from our parliamentary group
  3. Community: He wanted to defend people in their communities and mobilise the workers and the RMT become a progressive voice for social change as we had in the past.
  4. Equality: Wanted to see more activity from all areas of our union and a voice for all. He was against tokenism but our union was doing something wrong and we needed a will to change things rather than accept the status quo. He stated his aim to make the union more inclusive.
  5. Legacy:  he wanted to remove the philosophy that the General Secretary runs the union and make it the vision that we the members run the union. A union back to being visible and known
  6. Legal: Wanted a situation where union reps are not turned down for representation to 0%  and all members get represented should we have a case.
  7. He wanted a fighting fund to help us win our disputes such as DOO
  8. On branch matters he would attend regularly and that he would support our goals and would remain accountable, visible and approacable.

TfL Transformation Update

UPDATE FOLLOWING TfL ENGINEERING CONSULTATION

We met with the management yesterday (9th May) and discussed a range of issues.

The main topics we discussed were when results would be known, VS, SAE, development plans, targeted development plans, staff comms & the Resource Planning Tool.

We talked about the number of assessments that have been scored and input into the database. We also talked about your concerns over when people will find out whether or not they have been successful. The management said they had approximately 300 assessments to score and input, which they expected to be completed by the end of next week. I did ask for a comms to be sent out to staff to let them know that.

As yet we don’t know what a “targeted development plan” looks like and neither does the management. I have asked them to work on what a hypothetical plan would contain. This is going to be different to a development plan where someone just missed passing the assessment. We need to see an example of what a targeted plan would look like so we can find the problems before the plans become live. We also clarified what people on targeted development plans would do whilst on the plan. We asked for this to be made clear in the next comms. We asked about the process as this doesn’t fall under any current policy/process and we want to make sure that staff are treated fairly and that the right of appeal is there. I asked that if someone goes on a plan they know which role they would be going into at the end of the plan if they were successful. Management said they would look at this.

We asked if people who fell just short of passing would be able to ask for VS. The management confirmed that people in this group wouldn’t get VS. Then we asked about staff who get a role they didn’t preference at all. The management said they will look at this.

We talked about when SAE would be used and said that it would also need to be used at the end of the targeted development plan if someone had failed the plan because that member of staff may be able to find a role elsewhere in TfL/LUL.

We talked about the Resource Planning Tool. This is still being tested but we are hoping to see demonstration of it soon.

We asked about seeing the Transition Plan and also an updated CAP.

Blacklist Support Group update 27.03.18 – that was the week that was

A massive week in our campaign

  1. On Wednesday with the walkout of the Spycops inquiry in a show of no confidence in Judge Mitting. The Blacklist Support Group took that décision in solidarity with others families including the Lawrence’s and other groups being represented within these proceedings.

Our collective message was clear – We are done with stonewalling and whitewashes.

  1. On Friday – The Met Police finally officially confirmed that Special Branch and other police were involved in the Blacklisting of construction workers. The following disclosures have now been widely reported in the worlds news. Blacklisted workers appeared and our supporters appeared on TV and radio throughout the day. This has been 6 years going back to 2012 since we first raised it through our QC Imran Khan through the IPCC.

Blacklist Support Group would like to have it placed on record our appreciation for all the activists, lawyers, investigative journalists, researchers, trade unionists and politicians who have worked alongside us and whose efforts have finally forced the Met Police to make these admissions.

  1. After the revelations about police collusion in blacklisting, Unite the Union are now considering opening new legal proceedings against the Met Police. Watch this space

http://www.unitetheunion.org/news/police-blacklisting-admission-could-lead-to-fresh-legal-action/

https://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/article/unite-poised-take-legal-action-against-met-over-blacklisting

  1. With the above in mind, we ask supporters to highlight the Met Police admission to their local elected Police Commissioner, many of whom are Labour politicians and run our Police Forces. We suggest that our supporters send letters using the text below as a standard template making amendments as you see fit:

Blacklist Support Group open letter to our Police Commissioner’s over police collusion and spying.

The Blacklist Support Group notes the recent and most shocking disclosures and statement of the Metropolitan Police regarding the undercover policing scandal. It is with huge dismay that it has taken 6 years for the Metropolitan Police to admit that police supplied information to the unlawful construction blacklist. And only then after our legal representatives complained to the IPCC back in 2012.

Our attention must now turn to the solutions. Aside from any legal action against these political policing units, we call upon Police Commissioners to now come out in full support of those who suffered as a consequence of these clandestine anti-democratic operations.
We therefore ask the Police Commissioners to go on record and condemn the actions of the undercover police units spying on trade unions unreservedly and call for these covert political policing units that spy on legal democratic political campaigns should be disbanded immediately.

Roy Bentham co-Secretary of the BSG added:

“This culture of impunity has to end. As someone who seen it as a Hillsborough survivor it’s appalling it still appears to be rife within our police forces. As Labour politicians, our commissioners also have a duty to serve the people who voted them in. A statement on denouncing these black ops is surely the bare minimum and we need promises of transparency going forward as that is the only way to win our trust back as ordinary working class citizens”

  1. Another great article from our friends at the International Employment Rights organisation mapping out the terms of reference for a full public inquiry into Blacklisting.

  1. Retraining for Blacklisted workers.

Letters have gone out to Unite members with regards to this issue as set out in the settlement terms of the High Court cases.

We have also contacted Unite on behalf of blacklisted workers represented by Guney Clarke & Ryan solicitors in the High Court litigation. We will update on that in due course
