Bob Crow – British Heart Foundation
In the next few months, Bob’s family and friends are under taking some sponsored events for charities. Please see the below message from Bob’s partner, Nicky.
I am going to be jumping a small airplane on the Friday 15th February 2019 (sky diving) with my son Anthony, my brother Alan and his son Craig for the British heart foundation in the memory of my late partner Bob Crow
I am absolutely petrified to do this and have been told to just jump out the plane and face my fears…
I don’t know if that’s a good way to look at this or not ….
This special fund will help raise vital funds for the British Heart Foundation. The BHF is the nation’s heart charity, dedicated to saving lives through pioneering research, patient care and by providing vital information.

The Bob Crow Branch
Yesterday, the RMT agreed to change the name of our branch to the ‘Bob Crow Branch’ until the end of 2019.
This is the 5th anniversary of the passing of our late General Secretary and friend, Bob Crow and he is sadly missed by us all. As a mark of respect, we intend to honour his legacy and memory by the change to our name and other events throughout the year.
We are also in the process of having a new branch banner created which we intend to donate to his family.
Should anyone have their own memories of Bob, especially in his early days at LUL in the Veg Gang, please contact me, Paul Jackson, 07810 643 681 or post them on our memorial page below

Dear Jean
TRANSPLANT TRANSFORMATION
I was some what surprised to come in possession of papers relating to meetings held on 6th and 11th Novembers which purport to be minutes of meetings held on these dates of consultation with trade unions. As these minutes show, no trade union representatives or officials were present and the management side where simply talking amongst themselves.
That you should pretend that consultation has taken place by going ahead with a meeting when you were advised by all constituent unions in advance that we could not attend is simply unacceptable.
I would make it clear that consultation has not started and it is wrong to pretend that it has.
I believe in order to assist the process, then a special meeting of the Tube Lines Company Council should be convened to do so to address this matter, failing this, I am mindful that there is a statutory one scheduled in early December.
Whatever the case, I again make it clear that consultation has not started and you cannot claim that it has.
Yours sincerely
John Leach

RMT Social Event 22nd Nov – Acton LT Museum
Amigos,
Our event in the Acton Town LT Museum is this Thursday afternoon.
It’s looking good, with working and retired RMT members coming from as far as Bournemouth and the Forest of Dean.
It’s an RMT event but feel free to invite a friend
There’s a Regional Council rally and social afterwards so those who want can easily go to that – a short trip on the Picc from Acton to Finsbury Park.
A flyer for the event is attached and photo below.

RMT racks up another important victory in campaign to halt London Overground ticket office closures
RMT racks up another important victory in campaign to halt London Overground ticket office closures
RAIL UNION RMT today racked up another important victory in the campaign to halt the London Overground ticket office closure programme but warned that the battle is far from over.
At a packed London Travelwatch board meeting today the independent passenger watchdog recognised that the proposal from Arriva Rail London to close 51 ticket offices ”is not a clear cut situation” and they need more answers to questions which were raised.
London Travelwatch said that: “As a passenger body it was entirely legitimate that the board raised its concerns and that it gets answers”. The two main areas were issues around the capability of ticket machines and the level of footfall at these stations, which for 39 of them is well over a million entries and exits a year.
Mick Cash RMT General Secretary said;
”I welcome the interim decision of the board and hope that all the genuine concerns of passengers and staff around safety, accessibility, security and machine reliability are looked at and fully taken into account before any final decision is made. RMT believes firmly that there is no case for any closures. Today we have recorded another important victory in our campaign to halt the ticket office closure programme but the battle is far from over.
“I repeat again that London Mayor Sadiq Khan should heed the calls of passengers and their representatives and withdraw now his support from this flawed plan to close the ticket offices”.
Thales Rail Signals redundancies
The following report has been sent to Unity House regarding the situation on Thales Rail Signals
Late last week, I was contacted by local Thales Rail Signals HR regarding the potential for 11 job losses in the testing and commissioning area of the company working on the London Underground 4LM Contract to upgrade the Metropolitan and District Line Signalling Systems. They offered no details and did not accept the need to formally consult with the RMT. I informed them that such an approach would be an error and that we would be in dispute.
I then contacted the Director responsible for Employment Relations in this area and demanded urgent talks and that this matter is held in abeyance until such a time that formal discussions had occurred and I stated that the RMT would not accept any compulsory redundancies and we began to align diaries to meet next week.
On Monday 10th September NIght and Tuesday 11th September morning, local Thales Rail Signal Managers have escalated this matter by forcing through this redundancy process and have informed those eleven staff ‘at risk’ of redundancy. These people appear to be chosen more on the personal will and as an act of vendetta by the Department Manager, rather than on business needs. I have organised the members into communication groups and am visiting their work sites with the local RO, John Leach and Asst General Secretary, Steve Hedley, to boost our members confidence to fight these proposals. I have also spoken to the ER Directorand stated that we will not accept these actions and our union will oppose them and we are agreeing urgent talks as soon as possible.
I have also discussed this matter with our representatives and numerous members and they have unanimously asked me to state that I do not believe that Thale’s actions are acceptable and the company are obviously trying to fast track these job losses through as a matter of urgency. I therefore request that the National Executive Ballots all our Rail Signals Members for strike action and action short of strike.
Regards
Paul Jackson

RMT Credit Union
The LUEngineering Branch passed the below resolution to go to the London Transport Regional Council.
This is the first step to making RMT policy and shows how our union democracy works. If passed this then goes before our union’s National Executive who, once accepted, will make sure the actions are carried out.
Resolution: RMT Credit Union
This region notes the likely collapse of Wonga Pay Day Loan Company and condemns the shoddy antics of that company and the banking sector as a whole. They’ve driven the world into austerity whilst pocketing millions in bonuses whilst working people have picked up the cost.
We therefore call on the NEC to:
1. Write to each member advising them of our own credit union with the benefits of a not for profit organisation.
2. Send quarterly updates to each Branch and Region promoting and informing them of our Credit Union and services it provides.
3. Invite a speaker on the Credit Union to the next AGM to promote its virtues
